TOUCH - A LIFE FORCE
In my practice I utilize several facets of touch therapy. Because I work in so many areas of the hospital, including: dialysis, ICU, CCU, NICU, pediatrics, same-day surgery, and all forms of 'end-stage' in addition to being a certified doula and infant massage instructor, I need different modalities or combinations for each patient. I use music, special hypo-allergenic botanical lotions, and visualizations along with breathing techniques to assist my patients.
I recently gave a talk, including a demonstration, on 'Touch Therapy in the Pediatric Hospital Setting,' to a group of Chicago hospital Child Life Coordinators, . I will be speaking again in Nov., to a similar, larger group. While my session fee is generally not covered by insurance, perhaps your physician can order it as alternative medicine.

'....Our bodies are wired to be affected by human touch from the minute we are born. I think the best scientists need to be strapped to this rocket. They need to figure out how touch affects the newborn, the toddler, the adolescent, the adult-and the aged who are dying, often in a horrendous state of physical abandonment...'

'....Massage has a very unique role to play in our understanding of the human conditon and in healing practices. I think that there is a real science there, not just compassion. They are not mutually exclusive.'
